Created for Reebok’s Boston headquarters, this generative light installation welcomes employees and visitors with a physical manifestation of the athletic brand’s spirit of movement and strength. By mimicking the speed and mood of its environment, IMPULSE adds a narrative element to a functional office space.
The installation is inspired by flow fields, which are visualizations of energy and movement: their swirls and waves represent the interaction between different forces and dynamics. IMPULSE simulates this effect for Reebok’s reception area.
Parametrically cut metal plates are backlit by 1050 LED pixels. The pattern and placement of the cut-outs establish the visual appearance of a flow field, while changes in the lighting further intensify the illusion of fluidity.
